I am a Doctoral Candidate in the Linguistics Department at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York. My research sits at the intersection of Linguistics, New Media Studies, and Urban Bilingual Education. I focus on linguistic adaptation in response to digital communication technologies, particularly among urban bilingual youth. My dissertation includes a corpus of 50,000+ text messages that will be made available in May 2016.
I teach in Linguistics, Urban Education, Speech and Hearing, and African and African American Studies Departments at CUNY. I also teach a pedagogy seminar to prepare incoming graduate students for college teaching.
Before coming to the Graduate Center, I was a Peace Corps Volunteer, Math Instructor, and Academic Advisor.
